Job Description

Position: Senior Network Administrator

Location: Fairfax, VA [Travel locally within the State of Virginia]

Citizenship: US Citizens or US Permanent Residents

Summary:

SPN Solutions Inc. is on the lookout for a seasoned Senior Network Administrator with 7 years of experience, preferably within a government framework. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical depth, strategic thinking, and a proactive attitude to manage and optimize our network resources. Special emphasis will be given to expertise related to SCADA environments and industry-standard best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field.
  • Cisco Network Certification – CCNA (Preferred)
  • Minimum 7 years of experience as a network administrator, preferably in a government organization.
  • Proven expertise in managing Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, SDN devices, and Load Balancers.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Network Management & Optimization:

  • Plan, deploy, and manage LANs, WANs, wireless networks, including routers, switches, and other hardware.
  • Configure and install software, servers, routers, and other network devices.
  • Monitor network performance to ensure its availability and reliability, anticipating and mitigating potential problems.

Mentorship & Interdepartmental Collaboration:

  • Mentor junior staff and lead educational sessions.
  • Engage actively with various IT divisions to ensure integrated technology operations.

Remote Network Management:

  • Utilize cutting-edge tools like Auvik for real-time network infrastructure visualization and management.
  • Leverage Connectwise RMM for predictive network health assessments and proactive issue resolution.

Firewall Administration:

  • Routinely review and optimize firewall configurations using tools such as Connectwise Automate.
  • Update firewalls with the latest threat intelligence to ward off contemporary cyber threats.
  • Monitor and manage traffic for the early identification of potential threats and ensure immediate counteraction.

Switch Resource Governance:

  • Use tools like Auvik to monitor the performance of each switch, ensuring optimal data traffic handling.
  • Regularly update switches with the latest firmware versions via Connectwise Automate to maximize performance and security.
  • Configure and oversee VLANs, ensuring efficient traffic separation for enhanced security and performance.

SCADA Environment Responsibilities:

  • Secure and manage networks specific to SCADA and industrial control systems.
  • Coordinate with engineering and cybersecurity teams for SCADA-specific needs.
  • Ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the SCADA environment as per industry standards.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and monitor security protocols.
  • Ensure the network infrastructure is compliant with industry regulations and standards.
  • Collaborate with the cybersecurity team to ensure network security measures are in place and effective.

Backup and Redundancy:

  • Establish and execute network backup and redundancy solutions.
  • Regularly test backup solutions to ensure data integrity and availability.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain documentation related to network configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Generate network performance, forecast, and status reports for management review.

Training & Collaboration:

  • Guide junior staff and offer knowledge sharing sessions.
  • Collaborate closely with other IT departments, ensuring cohesive operations across all technology infrastructures.
